Urbanisasi adalah perpindahan penduduk dari desa ke kota. Urbanisasi adalah masalah yang cukup serius bagi kita semua. Persebaran penduduk yang tidak merata antara desa dengan kota akan menimbulkan berbagai permasalahan kehidupan sosial kemasyarakatan. Jumlah peningkatan penduduk kota yang signifikan tanpa didukung dan diimbangi dengan jumlah lapangan pekerjaan, fasilitas umum, aparat penegak hukum, perumahan, penyediaan pangan, dan lain sebagainya tentu adalah suatu masalah yang harus segera dicarikan jalan keluarnya.

Berbeda dengan perspektif ilmu kependudukan, definisi urbanisasi berarti persentase penduduk yang tinggal di daerah perkotaan. Perpindahan manusia dari desa ke kota hanya salah satu penyebab urbanisasi. Perpindahan itu sendiri dikategorikan 2 macam, yakni migrasi penduduk dan mobilitas penduduk. Migrasi penduduk adalah perpindahan penduduk dari desa ke kota yang bertujuan untuk tinggal menetap di kota, sedangkan Mobilitas Penduduk berarti perpindahan penduduk yang hanya bersifat sementara saja atau tidak menetap.

Untuk mendapatkan suatu niat untuk hijrah atau pergi ke kota dari desa, seseorang biasanya harus mendapatkan pengaruh yang kuat dalam bentuk ajakan, informasi media massa, impian pribadi, terdesak kebutuhan ekonomi, dan lain sebagainya.

Pengaruh-pengaruh tersebut bisa dalam bentuk sesuatu yang mendorong, memaksa atau faktor pendorong seseorang untuk urbanisasi, maupun dalam bentuk yang menarik perhatian atau faktor penarik. Di bawah ini adalah beberapa atau sebagian contoh yang pada dasarnya dapat menggerakkan seseorang untuk melakukan urbanisasi perpindahan dari pedesaaan ke perkotaan.

1. Kehidupan kota yang lebih modern
2. Sarana dan prasarana kota lebih lengkap
3. Banyak lapangan pekerjaan di kota
4. Pendidikan sekolah dan perguruan tinggi lebih baik dan berkualitas

Adapun faktor pendorongnya,ialah :

1. Lahan pertanian semakin sempit
2. Merasa tidak cocok dengan budaya tempat asalnya
3. Menganggur karena tidak banyak lapangan pekerjaan di desa
4. Terbatasnya sarana dan prasarana di desa
5. Diusir dari desa asal
6. Memiliki impian kuat menjadi orang kaya

Urbanisasi pun ada keuntungan dan akibatnya. Adapun hal yang dimaksud ialah :

1. Memoderenisasikan warga desa
2. Menambah pengetahuan warga desa
3. Menjalin kerja sama yang baik antarwarga suatu daerah
4. Mengimbangi masyarakat kota dengan masyarakat desa

Sedangkan Akibatnya ialah :

1. Terbentuknya suburb tempat-tempat pemukiman baru dipinggiran kota
2. Makin meningkatnya tuna karya (orang-orang yang tidak mempunyai pekerjaan tetap)
3. Masalah perumahan yg sempit dan tidak memenuhi persyaratan kesehatan
4. Lingkungan hidup tidak sehat, timbulkan kerawanan sosial dan kriminal.
